While Mr. Hart remains “otherwise engaged\,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover\, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey\, a girl can scheme\, can’t she?\n \n\nRoles are open to racially diverse and gender-inclusive casting for actors of all physical and neurological abilities. Availability for rehearsals will be asked at auditions\, please be prepared to list all conflicts from auditions to performance dates. Enedy \nOpen auditions for Altoona Community Theatre’s production of “Mary Poppins” will be held Sunday and Monday\, February 23 and 24\, beginning 6:00 p.m. in the Altoona Community Theatre Rehearsal Hall\, 1213 12th Street\, Downtown Altoona. Auditionees need only attend one night of auditions unless asked to attend callbacks. All audition times are for all ages appropriate for the show. \nEveryone should be prepared with 16 to 32 bars of a broadway song that showcases their ability. No unaccompanied singing will be permitted. An accompanist will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Auditions for William Shakespeare’s\nMuch Ado About Nothing\nAudition Dates: Sunday October 13 and Monday October 14 at 7:00 pm\nShow Dates: February 13-16\, 2025\n**PLUS a required student matinee February 12 at 10a.m.**\nDirected by Tom Liszka \nAuditions for this Shakespearean rom-com will take place Sunday October 13 and Monday October 14 starting at 7 p.m. Auditions will be open in the ACT Rehearsal Hall unless a private audition is requested. \nActors must be available for all performances\, including a student matinee at 10am on Wednesday February 12. Availability for rehearsals will be asked at auditions\, please be prepared to list all conflicts from October 17 through November 1 as well as January 2 to February 16. She is savvy\, takes pride in what she does\, and is brand new to hosting alongside her husband\, Giles. They have been married for one year\, and are very much in love. \n  \nGiles Ralston (20s-30s) – A former Navyman\, he is Mollie’s husband and first-time host of the Manor. He has a tendency of being pessimistic and isn’t always well-received by others\, but he means well and has a good heart. He has been married to Mollie for one year\, and they are very much in love. \n  \nChristopher Wren (20s-30s) – An eccentric\, unapologetic\, somewhat neurotic young man who often leaves people feeling unsettled\, irritated\, or wondering what to think of him. Despite this\, he gains Mollie’s trust quite quickly and they form a friendship. He is the first guest to arrive at the Manor. \n  \nMrs. Boyle (40+) – A critic; she is impossible to please and unanimously disliked. She is a former Magistrate and always speaks her mind\, even though nobody asks; everything that’s wrong with the world is at the fault of others and never herself. She is the second guest to arrive at Monkswell Manor. \n  \nMajor Metcalf (40+) – A kind\, well-mannered man who is militant in nature and brings an inherent feeling of safety and security about him. He is the third guest to arrive at the manor. \n  \nMiss Casewell (20s-30s) – A rather standoffish woman who embodies masculine qualities that are ahead of her time. She is mysterious and alludes to a troubling past\, though she has no intention of elaborating on it. She is the fourth guest to arrive at the manor. \n  \nMr. Paravicini (40+) – A mysterious man who arrives unexpectedly during the middle of a snowstorm. He is pleasant enough\, but there is an uneasiness to him. Nobody knows a thing about him\, and he seems to like it that way. He is confident\, speaks with an foreign accent\, and wears evident makeup to make himself appear of a different age – old or young\, it’s hard to tell. DESCRIPTION:The Mousetrap\nBy Agatha Christie\nDirected by Leila McCrumb\n  \nOpen Auditions: July 9 & 10 from 7-9pm.\n\nPerformances: September 19-21@ 7:30pm and September 22 @ 2pm\n  \nAudition Information:\nOpen auditions for “The Mousetrap” will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Altoona Community Theatre Rehearsal Hall\, 1213 12th Street\, Downtown Altoona.\nAuditionees need only attend one night unless asked to attend callbacks\, expected to be held the evening of July 12 as needed. \nAuditions will consist of readings from the script. Perusal copies of the expected audition scenes can be viewed & downloaded HERE.\nPreparation/memorization is NOT required. Please feel free to attend whether you have reviewed the readings or not. Copies of all scenes will be available at auditions. You may be asked to read sides not shown here or for characters you are not auditioning for. \nActors must be available for all performances. And can you solve this world-famous mystery for yourself?\n\n\nFor 70 years\, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap has kept millions of people\, from every corner of the globe\, on the edge of their seats\, and it continues to be a sell-out hit of London theatre.”\n\n  \nCast of Characters: \nMollie Ralston (20s-30s) – A kind\, caring young woman who inherited Monkswell Manor from her Aunt. She is savvy\, takes pride in what she does\, and is brand new to hosting alongside her husband\, Giles. They have been married for one year\, and are very much in love. \n  \nGiles Ralston (20s-30s) – A former Navyman\, he is Mollie’s husband and first-time host of the Manor. He has a tendency of being pessimistic and isn’t always well-received by others\, but he means well and has a good heart. He has been married to Mollie for one year\, and they are very much in love. \n  \nChristopher Wren (20s-30s) – An eccentric\, unapologetic\, somewhat neurotic young man who often leaves people feeling unsettled\, irritated\, or wondering what to think of him. Despite this\, he gains Mollie’s trust quite quickly and they form a friendship. He is the first guest to arrive at the Manor. \n  \nMrs. Boyle (40+) – A critic; she is impossible to please and unanimously disliked. She is a former Magistrate and always speaks her mind\, even though nobody asks; everything that’s wrong with the world is at the fault of others and never herself. She is the second guest to arrive at Monkswell Manor. \n  \nMajor Metcalf (40+) – A kind\, well-mannered man who is militant in nature and brings an inherent feeling of safety and security about him. He is the third guest to arrive at the manor. \n  \nMiss Casewell (20s-30s) – A rather standoffish woman who embodies masculine qualities that are ahead of her time. She is mysterious and alludes to a troubling past\, though she has no intention of elaborating on it. She is the fourth guest to arrive at the manor. \n  \nMr. Paravicini (40+) – A mysterious man who arrives unexpectedly during the middle of a snowstorm. He is pleasant enough\, but there is an uneasiness to him. Nobody knows a thing about him\, and he seems to like it that way. He is confident\, speaks with an foreign accent\, and wears evident makeup to make himself appear of a different age – old or young\, it’s hard to tell. The fifth guest to arrive at the Manor. \n  \nDetective Sergeant Trotter (20s-30s) – The final guest to arrive at the Manor. Jaunty and a straight-shooter\, he is sent by the Berkshire Police to investigate the murder which took place on the previous day in London. He informs the guests that the murderer may very well be among them. \n  \nAll roles are available. They embark on a quest to break a curse placed on them by a wicked Witch\, requiring them to gather items from different fairy tales\, such as Cinderella’s slipper\, Little Red Riding Hood’s cape\, Rapunzel’s hair\, and Jack’s cow. \nAs the characters journey “into the woods” to fulfill their wishes\, they encounter various challenges\, moral dilemmas\, and consequences of their actions. The musical explores themes of desire\, responsibility\, the consequences of one’s choices\, and the idea that “wishes come true\, not free.” \nAs the story progresses\, the characters’ lives become increasingly entangled\, leading to unexpected consequences and tragedies. Eventually\, they must confront the consequences of their actions and work together to overcome an even greater threat. \n  \n  \nCast of Characters (in order of appearance) \n There are 19 roles available\, including the following: \n  \nNarrator/Mysterious Man\nAn intellectual and pleasant storyteller who helps to orchestrate the show and illustrate lessons to the audience. Mysterious Man: A mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured protector and observer. She fears that she is going mad–that is certainly what Mr. Manningham believes. But when Detective Rough arrives one night to visit Mrs. Manningham while she is alone\, questions arise and secrets are revealed.\nFirst performed in 1939\, this play is relevant today since it is the origin of the term “gaslighting” which Merriam-Webster named their “word of the year” for 2022.” \n  \nCast of Characters: \nJack Manningham– (35-50) A little too well dressed. A narcissist and smooth talker. His manner is suave and authoritative. Must be capable of great violence and cruelty.  Will require stage kissing and violence. \n  \nBella Manningham– (25-35) A recent beauty but now severely depressed and highly anxious. She believes she is gradually losing her memory and going mad.  Shows a wide range of emotions.  Will require stage kissing and violence. \n  \nDetective Rough– (30-60) Friendly and overbearing. Easy laugh.  Underneath an affable exterior lies a deeply determined man.  The main driver of the plot\, he spins a tale of high adventure and keeps the action moving within long passages of narration. \n  \nNancy– (16-25) Cheeky\, taunting\, outrageous flirt with overt ambitions to sleep with Mr. Manningham and become the lady of the house. She has many “admirers” and uses her sexuality to her own advantage.  Will require strong sensuality and stage kissing. \n  \nElizabeth– (40-60) The other maid who has worked for Mrs. Manningham for quite some time. She is meek\, scared\, loyal and very\, very worried about her Mistress’s mental health. She takes large risks to do what’s right. \n  \nAll roles are available. DESCRIPTION:  \nOliver!\nBy Lionel Bart\nDirected by Matt Michrina\nAuditions for ACT’s final show of the 2022-2023 season will be held Sunday February 26 & Monday February 27 in the ACT Rehearsal Hall (1213 12th Street\, Downtown Altoona).\nAudition times are split between children and adults. Please read below for more information. \nOliver! performs May 4-7\, 2023. Actors must be available for all performances. Availability for rehearsals will be asked at auditions\, please be prepared to list all conflicts from auditions to performance dates. \nFull Vaccination against COVID-19\, including updated boosters\, is strongly encouraged but not required for participation in Oliver!. We will ask for vaccination status at auditions. This information is important for us to have in case of illness during the show process. If you have any questions regarding our policies on Covid-19 & vaccines\, please contact the ACT Office at 814-943-4357. \nAudition Information:\n\nGeneral auditions will be held in separate sessions each day for children and adults:\n-Auditionees 17 and under will audition from 5 PM to 6:30 PM\n-Auditionees 18 and up will audition from 7 PM to 9 PM\n-Please arrive as close to the start time for your age group as possible\nAll auditionees should prepare 24-32 bar cut of a theater song in the style of the show\, preferably one that reflects the character you’re most interested in. Auditionees are required to provide printed sheet music in the correct key for the pianist.\nIf you do not have a song prepared\, you will be given a short song to audition with.\nAuditions will also include a short movement audition. You will be taught a few steps as a group\, no special dance clothing or preparation required.\nCold readings from the script may occur at callbacks.\nAuditions are in the ACT Rehearsal Hall (NOT the Mishler Theatre). Please enter through the back door off the 13th Ave Parking Lot (Behind Tom & Joes).\nCallbacks are expected to be held March 1 as needed. You will be notified if you are needed at callbacks. Not receiving a call back does not mean you are not cast.\n\nIf you are unable to attend general auditions\, please contact the ACT Office at least one week prior to auditions to discuss scheduling an alternative time with the director. \n  \nAbout the show:\n“The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver\, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse\, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit\, the benevolent victim\, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout\, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back\, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.” \n  \nCast of Characters:\nAll roles are available. No prior theatrical or ACT experience is required.\n \nOliver Twist– 8-13 years of age\, Soprano; Orphaned and abandoned from an upper-class family\, Oliver ends up in the workhouse. He is innocent and good-hearted\, with a strong spirit.  \nFagin– 40+\, Bass-Baritone; A conniving career criminal and conman. He takes in homeless children and teaches them to pick pockets for him.  \nBill Sykes– 20s-30s\, Bass/Baritone; Perhaps the most infamous graduate from Fagin’s gang. Nancy’s brutal and abusive boyfriend. \nThe Artful Dodger– 13-18\, Soprano; The cleverest of Fagin’s pickpockets\, he introduces Fagin to Oliver. He is a good soul in spite of his “occupation.” Dodger is lively and self-assured. \nNancy– 20s-30s\, Alto; A graduate of Fagin’s “school of thieves” and tragically involved in an abusive relationship with Bill Sikes. She is a career thief\, hardened and streetwise beyond her years\, but also intelligent\, caring and good-hearted. She longs for a better life. A mother figure to Fagin’s gang. \nMr. Bumble– 35-60\, Tenor; The domineering Beadle (a minor official who carries out various civil\, educational or ceremonial duties) who runs the workhouse. Pompous and self-absorbed\, greedy and uncaring. He preaches Christian morality\, but behaves without compassion towards the paupers in his care. \nWidow Corney– 30-60\, Soprano; The sharp-tongued\, domineering matron of the workhouse. A widow\, she will do anything to get Mr. Bumble’s attention. \nMr. Sowerberry– 35-60\, Baritone; The Undertaker. Lives up to his name. He is stingy and ruled by his wife. Slimy. \nMrs. Sowerberry– 35-60\, Soprano; The Undertaker’s wife. She rules the roost and is stingy and mean-spirited. Along with her husband\, she provides some comic relief. \nBet– 16-25\, Alto; One of Fagin’s former pickpockets. Bet looks up to Nancy and is caring and good-natured. \nMr. Brownlow– 45-50\, Non-singing; A distinguished older gentleman of wealth and breeding. \nChild Ensemble– 6-18\, All vocal parts; Includes various smaller named roles including Charley Bates\, Noah Claypole\, Charlotte\, Nipper\, and Captain in addition to Workhouse Kids and Fagin’s Kids. \nAdult Ensemble- 18+\, All vocal parts; Includes various smaller named roles including Grimwig and Old Sally in addition to townspeople\, police officers\, and criminals.\n \n  \nRoles are open to diverse & gender-inclusive casting.  Our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender nonconforming\, genderqueer\, transgender and nonbinary actors to select the roles they most identify with. \nAge ranges are suggestions\, please audition for any role you would like. \n  \nQuestions can be directed to the ACT Office. \nPhone: 814-943-4357 \nEmail: act@altoonacommunitytheatre.com
