DESCRIPTION:Wait Until Dark Auditions\nBy Frederick Knott \nAdapted by Jeffrey Hatcher \nAuditions: December 1 & 2 at 6 PM\nPerformances: February 12\, 13\, 14 at 7:30 PM\n& February 15 at 2 PM\nDirected by Michael Manfred \n  \nOpen auditions for this 1940s thriller will take place Monday December 1 and Tuesday December 2 starting at 6 PM in the Altoona Community Theatre Rehearsal Hall\, 1213 12th Street\, Downtown Altoona.  \nAuditions will consist of cold readings from the script. \nActors must be available for all performances (dates listed above). Availability for rehearsals will be asked at auditions\, please be prepared to list all conflicts from auditions to performance dates. If you are unable to attend general auditions\, please contact the ACT Office at least two weeks in advance to discuss scheduling an alternative audition time. \nAuditionees need only attend one night of open auditions unless asked to attend callbacks\, expected to take place the evening of December 4 as needed. \nRehearsals are expected to begin shortly after auditions\, with breaks for the holidays.  \n  \nAbout the Show:\nWait Until Dark is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. In 1944 Greenwich Village\, Susan Hendrix\, a blind yet capable woman\, becomes the target of a group of ruthless criminals searching for a mysterious doll filled with contraband. As the tension mounts and the stakes grow higher\, Susan must use her cunning and her courage to outmaneuver her dangerous adversaries in a heart-pounding battle of wits. \nWith its masterful blend of intrigue\, danger\, and unexpected twists\, Wait Until Dark delivers a thrilling theatrical experience with a final scene that will leave you breathless.\n \nAppropriate for ages 13+. Content advisory: strong language\, violence\, and mild adult themes \n  \nAvailable Roles:\nSusan – Female\, 20-50\nFemale lead of the show. Recently blinded\, newly married\, learning to be independent with her new challenges. She is feisty\, intelligent\, and can hold her own. She’s afraid of her situation but not of herself. Actor must be comfortable with playing “fear”. Physically demanding role\, and is in every scene of the play. \n  \nRoat – Male\, 25-55\nThe main villain of the piece. He is calm\, cruel\, and collected. Throughout most of the play Roat is “playing” various characters in order to meet his goal. Once the masks drop we see who he truly is a vicious ruthless man. Actor must be comfortable with playing cruelty and putting other people in jeopardy. Multiple accents and “voices”. Physically demanding role. \n  \nMike – Male 25-40\nSam’s old army buddy who shows up for a visit and finds himself in the middle of danger with Susan. Charming\, dashing\, self-assured. Over the course of the play a possible romance develops between him and Susan. Stunt falls required. \n  \nCarlino – Male\, 25+\nEx-cop turned con. Does not think deeply or for very long. Carlino is manipulated by other characters to do their bidding. Hides his true intentions behind a badge. \n  \nGloria – Female\, actor should be 18+\, but will be playing an adolescent\nTeenager who lives in the upstairs apartment and helps Susan with her daily activities. Petulant\, ready to be offended\, but also exceedingly brave. \n  \nSam – Male\, 25-40\nSusan’s husband\, loving and compassionate. They have an easy relationship. Sam is a professional photographer who is determined to make sure that Susan is safe when he is not there. \n  \nWe will also be casting “extras” to play non-speaking roles such as passersby and cops\, as well as function as foley artists and backstage crew. \n  \nAll roles are available. No prior theatrical or ACT experience is required.  \n Roles are open to racially diverse and gender-inclusive casting for actors of all physical and neurological abilities. In a zany turn of events\, Violet\, Judy\, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Mr. Hart remains “otherwise engaged\,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover\, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey\, a girl can scheme\, can’t she?\n \n\nRoles are open to racially diverse and gender-inclusive casting for actors of all physical and neurological abilities.
