Altoona Community Theatre (ACT), a theater company with a rich 70-year history is seeking Directors for its 2020-21 season. The season includes “Clue: On Stage”, “Miracle On 34th Street”, “The Great Gatsby”, and “Into The Woods”. Director applications are also being accepted for two family theatre shows to be produced in BCAF’s Family Theatre Series at the Mishler Theatre. Interested Directors need not have worked at ACT before, but previous directing experience is preferred. Those interested should submit a letter of interest and resume to ACT’s Artistic Committee at act@altoonacommunitytheatre.com by March 31. Directors interested in the Family Theatre Series should include their proposed show in the letter of interest.

ACT’s September production “Clue: On Stage” is a madcap comedy based on the cult classic film and the popular board game that will keep audiences guessing until the final twist. Join Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard as they race to find the murderer before the body count stacks up.

In November, the holiday classic “Miracle on 34th Street” will tell the story of an elderly gentleman named Kris Kringle whose generous spirit unleashes a wave of goodwill throughout NYC and a hint of magic in the heart of a very practical little girl. When Kris insists he’s the real Santa Claus, he ends up in a court competency hearing where both his freedom and the joys of childhood are at stake.

The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, “The Great Gatsby” in February of 2021. Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan while Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed and danger.

One of Sondheim’s most popular musicals “Into the Woods” closes out ACT’s 2020-21 season in May of 2021. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. As their stories intertwine with other well-known fairy tales, they learn wishes can have unexpected consequences.
