About the Season:

Matilda the Musical          Sept. 21-24, 2023            Directed by Jason Schwartz

Based on the twisted genius of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book, this musical follows Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind  whose talents are constantly belittled by her cruel parents and her hostile headmistress,  the outrageous and wicked Miss Trunchbull. Reclusive, but with an ever-growing imagination and with a caring protector in her teacher Miss Honey, Matilda dreams of a better life, daring to take a stand against
unjust forces and to grasp her destiny in her own, tiny hands.

With a high stakes battle between good and evil along with high energy music and dancing, “Matilda” will rock the Mishler Theatre.

Clue On Stage Nov. 16-19, 2023      Directed by Jerry Cox

It’s a dark and stormy night, and you’ve been invited to a remote mansion where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, the dinner guests become murder suspects.  So whodunnit? Join the iconic oddballs known as Miss Scarlet, Mr. Green, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Professor Plum, and Mrs. Peacock as they race to find the murderer while the body count stacks up.

Based on the 1985 cult classic film and the popular board game, “Clue” is a
madcap murder-mystery-comedy-thriller that will keep you guessing until the final twist.

Angel Street (Gaslight) Feb. 15-18, 2024         Directed by Matt Michrina

Mystery and madness loom in the air in this classic Victorian thriller. Strange things have been happening in the Manningham household: items go missing, their dog is injured, and Mrs. Manningham hears footsteps coming from the locked, uninhabited top floor. She fears that she is going mad–that is certainly what Mr. Manningham believes. But when Detective Rough arrives one night to visit Mrs. Manningham while she is alone, questions arise and secrets are
revealed.

First performed in 1939, this play is the origin of the term “gaslighting” which Merriam-Webster named their “word of the year” for 2022.

Into The Woods                        May 2-5, 2024                        Directed by Jonathan O’Harrow

This haunting and humorous musical is a mash-up, fractured fairy tale that includes Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of beanstalk fame) along with a pair of handsome but shallow Princes.  When all their stories, and the stories of other fairy tale characters, lead into the woods and become intertwined, dreams come true, and wishes are granted.  But “happily ever after” eludes them as they learn the
tangled consequences of getting what you wished for.

Winner of multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical (1988) and Best Revival of a Musical (2002), it was made into a hit movie in 2014 starring Meryl Streep as the witch.
